The plan, in 1959, was
to order a fleet of new
Atlanteans. These
could not be delivered
in time, so instead a
small number of PD3s
with extended Orion
bodies were
purchased. Looking
like the existing PD2’s,
but seating 70, these
vehicles were often
referred to as
“spaceships” because
of their size.
Subject to finding the backing
support required, Alan Wilsonham,
current owner of the only remaining
“spaceship” has offerred it to CPPTD
for the rstoration to be completed.
We need to organise a support
group to pay the rent and fund the
continued upkeep of the vehicle. IF
you are interested in helping to bring
this unique vehicle back to
Portsmouth, please contact Clive
Wilkin.
As part of the same offer, we also
have an opportunity to acquire a
second open top PD2, sister to LRV
996
UPDATE:
CPPTD IS OFFERED
A PD3 “spaceship”
Sunday 11th July 2010
Due to insurmountable problems
concerning the "Return of the
Titans" event on 11th July, this
event has been slimmed down to a
Running Day for just ex-
Portsmouth vehicles. Up to 10
buses will be operating from The
Hard Interchange (Stand J) to
Eastney Caravan Park via Old
Portsmouth and the seafront,
between approximately 10 am and
5 pm.
PD1 Restoration
Commences
The “Tuesday Gang” (Dave Wilds,
Clive Wilkin, Doug Stewart,
Richard Finch and Kevin
Warrington) have started work on
restoring our 1947 PD1 to its
former glory. Although very sad
looking, the bus is in remarkably
good structural condition despite
being involved in many staged road
accidents while at the Fire Service
College. Look out for further news!
